Here's what Anyway Fruit has to share:

3 things to know before buying fresh fruit 1. Tree-ripened vs. shelf-ripened makes a big difference. Much of the fruit sold in grocery stores is picked early and ripened in transit or storage. Fruit allowed to ripen naturally on the tree develops more sugar and flavor compounds, making it noticeably sweeter and more fragrant. 2.Colour isn't everything. Bright colors are appealing but can be misleading β€” some fruit is artificially waxed or coated to extend shelf life and improve appearance. Focus on smell, weight, and texture instead for a truer read on freshness and quality. 3.Seasonal fruit is almost always better. In-season fruit is picked closer to peak ripeness, travels a shorter distance, and tends to be significantly more flavourful than out-of-season varieties shipped from far away. *****BONUS TIPS***** 1.Keeping fruit visible encourages healthier snacking. Research in behavioral nutrition consistently shows that people eat more of what they can see. A bowl of fresh fruit on the counter is one of the simplest and most effective ways to make healthy choices feel effortless. 2.Don't refrigerate tropical fruits at home. Mangoes, pineapples, limes, papayas, and bananas are tropical fruits that actually lose flavor and texture in the fridge. Keep them on the counter and enjoy them at room temperature for the best taste.
